Nutritional supplements have become vital for Americans, with over half of the US population taking a daily supplement. If taken appropriately, supplements can complement and uplift your level of health by providing you with the nutrition that your diet lacks.
However, the supplements that are so useful and essential to our health are now being threatened and deliberately attacked through a legislative campaign called the Dietary Supplement Labeling Act (S. 1310).
Backed by Senators Richard Durbin and Senator Richard Blumenthal, S. 1310 will grant the FDA additional power to regulate supplements off store shelves.
Why Are Supplements Being Highly Criticized While Drugs and Vaccines Go Unheeded?
Durbin, Blumenthal, and supporters of S. 1310 want the public to believe that supplements are "dangerous" and need further regulation. If S. 1310 were to pass, supplement manufacturers will be required by the FDA to subject their products to unnecessary, costly, and duplicative regulatory processes.
Not only will supplement costs skyrocket, but it will also cripple manufacturers' revenues – which are far smaller than that of large pharmaceutical companies – and may force them to drop out of the market.
Indeed, so much attention is given to supplements and their potential to "harm" people – even though data has shown that there are ZERO deaths from nutritional supplements. i
At the same time, pharmaceutical drugs, which are proven to have adverse effects, are intentionally ignored.
In 2008 alone, there were 126,517 adverse event reports (AERs) for vaccines, with 3,923 of them considered serious. There were a whopping 526,527 AERs for FDA-approved drugs, with 275,421 considered serious.ii
FDA-approved drugs caused 80 percent of Poison Control fatalities. More than 100,000 calls to Poison Control Centers, 56,000 emergency room visits, 2,600 hospitalizations, and nearly 500 deaths each year are attributed to Acetaminophen (Tylenol) alone. iii
The FDA is largely funded by the pharmaceutical industry, which is why it is heavily biased in favor of drugs. The FDA sees supplements as competition – the main reason why they are so determined to have supplements strictly regulated.
These government agencies are manipulating people, hoping to divert them from the more alarming issue: that pharmaceutical drugs are a thousand times more likely to inflict harm or even kill people.
We Are Living in a "Pharmacracy"
Natural health expert Dr. Joseph Mercola says that our society has turned into a "pharmacracy" – every twitch and hiccup, every simple ailment is deemed treatable by prescription drugs.iv However, using drugs to treat disease symptoms actually causes other health problems. It's an evil cycle that leads to "Pharmageddon": a state where medicines produce more ill-health than well-being, and when medical progress does more harm than good.v
But Pharmageddon is no longer a prospect; it is happening right now.
In fact, prescription drug overdose is now the fourth-leading cause of death in the US – one American dies every 19 minutes due to an accidental prescription drug overdose.vi It's described as "the biggest man-made epidemic in the United States."
In fact, drug overdoses kill more Americans than motor vehicle crashes!
Considering these alarming facts, is it still practical or reasonable to create a great deal of controversy regarding supplements, regarded as one of the safest consumer products sold today, while health-harming pharmaceutical drugs are freely sold to people?
Save Our Supplements: Who We Are and What We Stand for
Imposing strict regulations on supplements is not necessary, and may even have a significantly adverse impact on people's health. For this reason, the natural health community is once again working together to strongly campaign against Senator Durbin's Dietary Supplement Labeling Act.
We have put together a grassroots lobbying effort that aims to preserve our freedom to use dietary supplements. This initiative is fully supported by Mercola.com, Natural Products Association (NPA), the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), and the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), as well as the dietary supplement industry – including suppliers and retailers – and other natural health associations, such as the consumer advocacy organization Alliance for Natural Health-USA.
Join the Campaign to Save Our Supplements!
Our plan of action is to reach out to our lawmakers and let them know that the Dietary Supplement Labeling Act is NOT in the best interest of the public. However, we need your help to fully ensure the success of this campaign.
Please help us spread the word and mobilize this grassroots effort.

Dietary supplements are not drugs. They are vitamins, minerals, micronutrients, and herbs. They are made of substances found in food and in nature, and not created in a laboratory. Hence, there is no need to amend their current regulations, which are completely sufficient.
Spread the word and S.O.S. – save our supplements. This is our chance to stand up for our right to safe and affordable supplements. Take part in this important grassroots effort. Together, we can defeat this tyrannical intrusion on our health and liberty.
